does he have adhd?
Tumblr media
submit your own characters here to be featured!
reason: okay what inspired me to submit this to your blog was i had an actual dream. about submitting johnny test to a blog like this. though for some reason it was more "who is more adhd" blog and it somehow pit johnny test against...i don't remember sin kiske from guilty gear or something and honestly those characters would be a tie. but ANYWAY. johnny test has EVIDENCE that the character is adhd. he is stated to be incredibly smart if he applies himself, which is LITERALLY such a common adhd trait. this is a trait i myself have (am auDHD specifically): i am literally not good at and pretty much don't or can't apply myself to anything BUT my specific Area, which in my case is anything humanities related, whether it be sociology, area studies, or plain ol' english literature or creative writing. johnny test has a SIMILAR plotline with this in like...i believe season 1? where the teacher guy is like...johnny you have to do woodworking or else you'll fail and johnny's like I DON'T WAAAAAAAAAAANNAAAAAAAAA DO WOODWORKING and the teacher's like look kid you've got talent for it you've just gonna apply yourself, and when he applies himself, i believe he gets a b or an a? which is a really good grade (either of them) for not paying attention much to either! again, i haven't watched that specific season of johnny test in years. but trust me. johnny test has adhd. like even his fourth wall breaking jokes in the series are TEXTBOOK adhd "not taking anything, including the plot of this episode, seriously unless your life is in danger" okay. johnny. test. is an adhd. icon.

YESSSSS BABY HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN SIN YES PLEASE. The Kiskes go to whatever 22nd century version of party city they have and all the employees keep asking if Sin wants something 'cooler' (they are absolutely not convinced he's as young as he says but they can at least buy him being a very tall high schooler) but he's so insistent that it's his first halloween and he has to do it the 'right' way and there probably are no costumes like that anywhere near his size so Dizzy has to sew one for him and he's so unreasonably jazzed about the whole thing
the size of pumpkin sin would be realtive to Baby's First Halloween pumpkin costumes makes him look like the ones they take to show at fairs and such. he's literally the great pumpkin from charlie brown and he would be SOOOOOO proud of his costume his mom made him. if anyone tried to make fun of it he'd just actually bite them

#42: Raaga Chaar
If there were sins in this world, the one you would bear is that which covets. The harsh wasteland which brought you up has made you greedy. When you see one who you call friend proceed you in every way, that bitterness grips you and makes you act out. Your actions however, have dire consequences, ones you cannot bear face. Repent, or die alone, its your choice to make.
“raaga” means dye and is a specific melodic framework. “chaar” means poet or bard.
43, cis man (he/him), romance: sort of? he’s okay with the idea of it but its a bit of a foreign concept since kisk oracles decide who people wed. sex: yes. preference: feminine
is about 5’11” and he keeps his dark auburn hair braided neatly down his back. he has cunning yellow eyes that edge on green, and his beard is a bit sparser than jace’s is. his goal has always been to grow it out. as usually weildes a lance, he has many callouses on his hands and his skin like many kisks is deep like the night.
raaga still lives on kiskkaddon and while he did not have a “formal” role in their society—like jace, he was a hearless one—he and jace were formerly thick as thieves. they went on many raids together and protected their people to the best of their ability. since jace and miki left, and he gave up trying to take care of vivo (who is he and miki’s son… yeah a whole mess) and passed him along to jace’s father, he has been essentially living as a hermit. he doesn’t have the motivation to leave kiskkaddon entirely, but he also doesn’t want to deal with the stares and judgement that their people are throwing his way.
underneath the surface of kind smiles and agreeable attitude that was the temper to jace’s flames, raaga has always been a bitter, jealous man—especially over his closest friend. if he had more forethought, perhaps he would say that he tried to keep jace closer because he viewed him as a rival or enemy, but really, he isn’t capable of that much foresight. he is a man ruled by his emotions, no matter how much he may try to reign them in—and simply couldn’t take the fact that jace was getting near everything that raaga himself wanted in life. to make up for this (in a twisted way) he gave miki his sob story about always wanting to be with her… which was partially true. but really he did what he did to get back at jace. he’s quite vindictive. now that things have fallen apart, he has become apathetic and disinterested, stewing in his own bitterness.

10- Familial Love
Back to something a little more familiar and a lot more lighthearted. I'll always take an excuse to write a bit of Kiske family silliness. I try not to get too sitcom-y about it, but at times it's hard not to imagine Ky constantly chasing his troublemaking family members around and trying to do 'normal' things like taking a nice family photo despite it being an uphill fight.
-
To nobody’s surprise, one of the most difficult parts had been convincing Sol to join in. He’d immediately turned for the door at the moment it was brought up to him, but with enough plying with promises of future favors from Ky and enough gentle yet guilt-tripping smiles from Dizzy, they had gotten a reluctant agreement. Said agreement was almost immediately thrown into contention again as soon as someone mentioned the thought of him dressing up.
Currently, the situation is being held together through sheer force of will. The poor man standing behind the shutter had been waiting for about twenty minutes now, but Ky had his hands full trying to fix Sin’s tie for the umpteenth time. It seemed the moment he looked away, his son managed to find a way to undo the knot again.
Ram, at least, had done an admirable job keeping her puppy from getting up and walking off. She’d insisted on having him in the photo. She promised he would be kept under control and, Ky would admit, she’d kept her word. He could see the way that the animal warily eyed the floating fringe of Elphelt’s skirt, but otherwise, he stayed confined to his owner’s lap.
What the Valentines lacked in trouble, Sol brought in spades. Were he to look over at any given moment, Ky was sure that he would either have undone the buttons on his shirt again, slouched, made an obscene gesture at the camera, or all three. He was here for as little as he could get away with, only thanks to enough begging.
“There. Fixed. Now please don’t tug on it again, alright Sin?” Ky sat back down, smoothing out his uniform. He sent one final glance over his shoulder to make sure he had been heard.
“Can we take the picture now, mister Ky?” Asked Elphelt. “My cheeks are starting to hurt.”
“Try and wait to smile until he tells you to, then you don’t have to worry about straining yourself,” replied Dizzy.
Ky looked at the photographer, who, for what it was worth, hadn’t up and left yet. “I’m quite sorry for the long wait, sir. Are we still ready?”
“Yes, sir. As soon as you give the order, I can take the photo.”
“Excellent.” He gestured for everyone to lean in. “Like I showed you earlier, look at the camera and say- !”
Dizzy sniffed the air. “...chocolate?”
“What in the name of- Sin!” Ky shouted, immediately confronting his son. “Where did you even get that?!”
“I was hungry.” He shrugged innocently, unbothered at how it was staining his fingers.
“It’s messy! Wipe it off on-” looking around, Ky found nothing that he could risk staining. “Oh, just fold your arms in your lap, hopefully it won’t show in the picture…”
“Do you want to wait, your majesty?”
“No, no, let’s just get this over with. Smile, everyone, say cheese!”
The flashbulb went off at the same time as a harsh yelp. Knowing his luck, it probably wasn’t someone merely startled by the light. The Valentines were wrestling in each other’s lap, trying to drag Ram’s dog back into its usual space.
“Down, Ketchup! Down! Sit!”
“W-wait, Ram- Ram it’s gonna- !”
The dog came loose with a tear, taking along a mouthful of Elphelt’s lace trim. Ky could tell that she was a second away from bursting into tears.
“It’s going to be alright, Elphelt,” he told her, perhaps a bit too forcefully. “We can have it repaired. For now, just try to cover it? We just need to take a quick photo, can we manage that?”
She sniffled and nodded, trying to put her smile back on. Ky settled back into his chair. “Please, everyone just try and sit still for one moment. Try and look presentable. Sin, hands folded. Ramlethal, try to keep your dog still. Don’t slouch, Sol! Stand up straight.”
“Ugh, fine.”
“Everyone, say- “
Ky could make out the sound of a thread tearing, but maybe it was just the final strand of his sanity. He felt something small strike the side of his head the very moment another flash went off.
Elphelt yelped again. “Ram, you said you’d keep him off me!”
While the two tried to avoid tearing another hole in the poor girl’s skirt, Ky fished a small disc of plastic out of his shirt collar. When he looked over, Sol was standing tall with an unsubtle smirk and the very top of his shirt torn open.
The man gave an innocent shrug as he was scowled at. “I stood up. Shirt was too snug.”
“I- I’m very sorry, sir, I’m trying my best.” The photographer ducked out from behind the tripod. “I’m trying to catch the moments where everyone is sitting still.”
He kept quiet, knowing that if he allowed himself to speak to anyone in the room, it would likely come out as nigh-incoherent shouting. A headache was already brewing, and he wasn’t sure how to dispel it.
Dizzy’s chair rocked slightly as she stood up and approached the cameraman.
“May I please see the most recent photo you took?”
“If you’d like to, I was just about to delete it.” He looked at her, somewhat incredulous, but guided her around to show his work.
Ky wasn’t sure what he was expecting, but he was surprised to hear his wife’s laughter.
“Heehee! Aww, honey, come and take a look at this.”
“Do I want to know why?” He growled, unable to stop himself completely from showing his frustration. Still, he did as she asked, joining her side and crouching to look into the other side of the camera.
The screen displayed where they had all been sitting a few moments ago. It was as much of a mess as it had been from his point of view. Sin’s hands were in perfect view, still food-stained. Even his sleeves had been muddied. Elphelt was recoiling as the dog hung off of a ribbon on her skirt, with Ram stuck watching in shock. It managed to capture the exact moment that Sol’s shirt button tore off and smacked Ky in the side of his face, and while Sol looked unbothered by his rumpled, open shirt, the other was visibly wincing from being struck and scrunching his face in a rather unflattering expression. The only one that looked remotely presentable was Dizzy, but she had managed to blink as the shutter went off, making her serene expression look sleepy-eyed and distant.
Ky let out a groan. “Why did you want me to look at this?”
“Well, I know it isn’t what you wanted. You put so much effort into trying to make everyone look nice for a family photo, but none of us really act or dress like this all the time. I think this captures the ‘real' us a little better, don’t you think?”
He thought for a moment. “I’m still not happy with how things turned out, but I suppose I see what you mean.”
“So…do you still want me to delete the old photos, sir?” The photographer asked.
“Most of them, yes. But keep the last one.” Replied Ky. “My original plan was to have a large photo over the foyer, but I think I’d like a small print of this one for my desk.”

heirloom wheat - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Pairing(s): Bedman/Sin Kiske
Word Count: 2.1k
Fic Summary: With an upcoming Kiske-Badguy family reunion, Sin and Bedman make homemade bread to bring along. Finally asking questions they've both been wondering, they both learn more about the other's past.
Chapter Summary: Bedman and Sin make bread together, and Sin talks about his childhood. Bedman makes some astute observations about emotion.
Tumblr media
Sin wasn’t going to take over. He had promised. He was going to do this with his boyfriend, not for him.
But fuck, Bedman was really bad at making bread.
Not for lack of trying, of course. Sin stood across the counter from him, watching his truly valiant effort at kneading dough, which appeared from the outside more like he was fighting the stuff—and losing. It likely didn’t help that he was standing, wheelchair abandoned to the side in favor of reaching the countertop.
As Bedman paused his assault, pulling his hands away from the dough, Sin opened his mouth.
“Before you even ask,” Bedman started, beating him to the punch, “Yes. Despite my efforts, I am in desperate need of assistance. I am absolutely coated in flour and would like not to be.”

Ok obvs the “Ky and Sin switched eyes” thing is in dubious canon due to Daisuke admitting to forgetting things he wrote in the Overture short stories BUT most people I’ve seen accept it as still canon because it explains Ky having Dragon Install--
anyways. thinking about how that means Sin may have learned the “babies come from your eye” thing when he was 6 months old (which is also probably why he says he’s already 5, of course he knows where they come from, he learned it years ago!)--since he would have been physically/mentally around 6 years old at the time, it makes sense they wouldn’t tell him about sex or anything
but also-- in the overture short stories:
An eye patch was worn over [Sin]’s right eye as if to cover something sinister. It was eerily real, with only that one spot in particular out of balance with the artistic harmony of the rest of the boy’s image.
[...]
The man’s face was far removed from that of the Ky Kiske that he had known. His cheeks had lost their color, his lips were dry and cracked, and dark circles lay under his eyes, which seemed to have lost their light. And, above all, he was wearing an eye patch over his right eye, just as the child Sin had been wearing earlier.
The story was probably used to also explain his father’s eye patch when Sin asked, likely because they didn’t want to upset him by explaining the real situation, especially where Ky and Sin already had a tense relationship. No need for Sin to feel guilty about it or get upset about the surgery, which likely happened when he was too young to remember.
In the story Sin tells, Dizzy claims her eye came out so Ky replaced her’s with his--hence Dizzy having two eyes and Ky having an eyepatch--and then they all got better (since Ky eventually takes the eyepatch off after healing up) and that eye became Sin!
There, two for one combo! Dizzy got Sin to stop asking about where babies come from and about his dad’s injury, without having to tell him the truth because he’s too young.
And then Sin went to live with Sol and never was told anything else re: his dad’s eyes or where babies come from.
(As for why the eye switch, and this is me assuming so take it with a grain of salt, the eye switch was likely to keep Sin from hurting himself/others by removing some source of his gear power--he’s more human than Dizzy so may not have been able to handle his gear cells/power as well as she does--but doing so also meant that Ky now has gear cells and is part gear now too and well....
Despite loving Sin and Dizzy, Ky still has a lot of issues around Gears especially around that time--Ky’s story also has him name Sin and implies it’s because of Ky’s immense guilt about having a child with the same creatures that he spent part of his early life fighting a holy war against and who killed millions of people including his parents, plus he could barely meet Sin’s eyes as a child. There is a good reason why Sin was convinced Ky hated him until Xrd, other than being sent to live with his grandfather).
also bc i’ve seen this argument before: why would they ever do a transplant between a child and an adult? they actually do that irl when its needed with certain organs like kidneys, because there’s (fortunately and unfortunately) not a lot of child organ donors. also eye transplants aren’t a thing (parts of the eye, yes). and also they’re literally magic. sin is part magical bioweapon. who cares.

Annon-Guy: I was watching a video on Street Fighter 6 where the roster (Minus JP) taught your Custom Character their Martial Art in their own unique way and it got me thinking this. I know it's a weapon fighter, but how would the 24 Characters in Guilty Gear StrIVe teach your Custom Character in their own way (yes, this includes I-No, Chaos, Bedman? and Asuka)?
As part of an extra service, when I wrote GG Bios for every Guilty Gear character, in classic tradition, I would often describe their weapons and fighting style and even list their movelist history in great detail...
I also have a separate tag specifically for GG+Weapons and going further in to Movelist+Evolution, which chronicles the development of their respective fighting styles... not to mention the Instant+Kill tag.
Part of a fighter's history is not only the development of their fighting style, but the history they have interacted with it, their teachers, the weapons they've obtained or created along the way and the philosophies they created while honing their craft.
While teaching and mastery of such esoteric and often Magic-based arts aren't exactly something some characters can replicate OR teach (because of how unique each character in Guilty Gear is)... at the very least their styles and weapons can at least somewhat be documented here on my blog as well as I can manage.
Oh yes, and I also have a separate tag for an entirely old category called "Ancient+Martial+Arts", as well as discussion on the art of using Ki or Qi.
Seeing as Guilty Gear is mostly about the Thrice-Damned Bio-Weapons KNOWN as GEARS, I also have a separate tag for the physiology of GEARS as well.
Okay, that's enough hyperlinks... leading BACK in to your question... many characters like Millia and Zato can't exactly pass their powers on to any sort of protégé in a traditional sense, though I suppose they can be something of a mentor at the very least, as each has their own unique personality quirks and nuances as you might expect...
Most likely if one were to explore the world of Guilty Gear that way, they would likely be "crafting" their own unique weapons and learning Magic arts along the way, borrowing a few "technique ideas" like Sin Kiske already has...
Going even further, this traces itself back to the Robo-Ky Mark II Factory of Guilty Gear Isuka, which allowed players to customize their own unique Robo-Ky with moves that copied the techniques of their favorite characters. (And hey, I wouldn't mind building a robot version of my favorite characters and custom moves, myself!)
Yeahp, Isuka was ahead of its time, believe it or not!
No doubt, living in such a world that's "full of fighting" and danger, you would face Gears, monsters of all types, take on Bounties as a Bounty Hunter, chase on Marks as an Assassin, or seek your own fortune as a Pirate or Knight or challenge the authorities as a dangerous GEAR of your own nightmarish creation!

ꕥ — WELCOME TO EXO COSMIA, ELPHELT VALENTINE. 🌑
Tumblr media
ꕥ  — OOC INFORMATION;
name / alias: Blues age: 28 pronouns: they/he ooc contact: @au_deer on twittery  other characters in xc: Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu, Mithra, Shidou Kirisaki
ꕥ  — IC INFORMATION;
name: Elphelt Valentine age: Unknown; physically somewhere in her 20s pronouns: she/her series: Guilty Gear canon point: post Xrd Sign app triggers: apocalyptic scenarios
personality:
Upbeat! Cheerful! Refined(?)! Elegant(?)! Elphelt is the embodiment of all this and more as… the perfect bride(???)!!!
… Okay, maybe she has a bit to go, but she's doing her best over here!
Elphelt's sunny attitude and abundance of energy alongside her delusions of romantic love can make her quite the handful. There isn't an adult safe from her fantasies, and while she'll never genuinely go through with the marriage if rejected, she'll certainly dream about it. Yes truly, her flights of fancy can get so fanciful they cross into the absurd, but not just for romance. Elphelt loves love, wishing deeply to experience it for herself.
She's not supposed to be able to feel love, you see, but recently she's found proof that maybe, just maybe… she can.
Despite her loopy tendencies, Elphelt can have a surprisingly grounded grasp on the world at times. She's an optimist, but she knows what it's like to go through hardships. Because of this, she never hesitates to extend a helping hand to others. Sure this might get her burned, but that's a price worth paying if it means someone else is saved!
something your muse struggles with: Controlling her emotions. A lot of experiences are still new to her and she feels many, many things strongly. She also tends to get far too attached too quickly and becomes very pushy
your muse’s greatest strength: Her empathy and willingness to help others. Elphelt's heart is big enough for everyone!
history / background:
Once upon a time, Elphelt did not exist…
… And then, one day, she did!
Valentines originate from the Backyard, a place of magic that exists behind the scenes. Created by her "mother" the Universal Will, Elphelt was imbued with a mission and released unto the world. That being said, she didn't know what the mission was, she only knew that she had to find someone and do something and that she had emotions for some reason.
Oh well! That just means that she got to live a normal life for a while. During this time, she ended up getting engaged to a death metal singer! Wow! Good for her! She was all set to be married, too, but on the day of her wedding, the partying became so intense that her programming overloaded and she realized who she was. Unfortunately, this meant she didn’t get married :(
But, she also didn’t want to follow her orders, so she next did her best to try and find Sol Badguy, but she ended up finding the wrong guy (Ky Kiske). Oh well. Said guy also happened to be the king of an entire nation so she was detained. However! She was able to correctly predict that her sister would be released and wreak havoc. That landed her in the position of having to help Sol, Ky, and the others in order to stop her. So, not wanting anyone to get hurt, she helped! After this, not all of them trusted her still (Sol) but at least she did the right thing and her sister was taken into custody.
After this, with Ramlethal (her sister) in custody, she and Sin (son of Ky, was also there to stop Ram) decided to help her have fun and feel more comfortable while in custody. Thanks to these efforts, Ram started to feel more emotions (yay!) but the fun couldn’t last…
The Conclave (the world’s government, full of bad guys) had decided to revive… Justice! (*crickets*) (please see the entirety of Guilty Gear’s backstory for why this is bad)
So, Elphelt, naturally, wanted to help them as well! She was placed as defense in order to fend off some of the attackers. All was going well, but then uh…
She kinda… had her programming reactivated? Revealing that she was actually a sleeper agent this entire time? And then, no longer feeling any of her kindness and empathy, she attacked everyone and nearly destroyed them all? And she was actually supposed to destroy all of humanity too???
Thankfully, Sol was able to stop her (and he said some really nice things too! Good job Sol). But, unfortunately, she ended up being kidnapped by her “Mother”, the Universal Will. Um… well, hopefully she’ll be okay.
(Spoilers: she was okay)
powers / abilities:
Power Nullification: Elphelt is able to stop the power of her sister Ramlethal in its tracks. It’s currently unknown whether this ability would work on anyone else
Power Limit Removed: A state Elphelt enters where her fighting limiter is taken off. She becomes far stronger magically and physically, capable of being a threat to the world. Unfortunately, this also overrides her emotions and reverts her back to the cold, unfeeling programming most Valentines are known to have. Kind of a double edged sword.
inherent abilities:
Valentine Composition: Elphelt isn’t exactly a human: she’s far stronger, faster, and capable of using magic
items / weapons:
Guns: One time a while back, Elphelt broke into a research facility and stole a bunch of magical guns that fire powerful magical bullets. Due to their purpose of overriding magic nullification, they will generally work even when other types of magic would not
Ms. Traveiller: A shotgun. Has a bow on it!
Ms. Confille: A… something gun. Has a rose on it!
Handgun: unnamed, but it has a cute little clover charm on it!
Bouquet: A really big bouquet of roses that Elphelt keeps strapped to her back. It contains a plethora of weapons including:
Strawberry bombs
Big cake cutter
Combat Roses
Cannon: A cannon that shoots magical cannonballs! Fairly self explanatory really
Cupid’s Bullet: Magical bullets that don’t kill… instead, they make whoever is struck by them fall in love with Elphelt! Yes this is a pretty strong ability, but don’t worry, she’s responsible!
Marriage Contracts: You know, in case someone wants to get married to her! She’s nothing if not prepared
starting ability: um… none <3
starting item: Bouquet
extra:
No more heterosexuality, Elphelt will propose to anyone regardless of gender
She actually really likes death metal? Her theme is a banger btw. Stream Marionette
discord id: .magnumwedding

Cutely projects onto to Badguy-Valentine-Kiske family. Everyone is queer in a weird way. Personal hcs (subject to some change) under the cut.
Sol - Bisexual Nonbinary man. Gender is too much work so he stopped observing during the war. Uses he/him mostly because he's too lazy to put in the work for any type of social transition. Would respond to pretty much anything though. Is a guy in the way a dragon is a guy. [NOTE. my Sol gear lore is fucking insane and barely follows canon. He's going to be a fucked up immortal dragon possibly forever.]
Ky - I've come around. I've cracked the code. This man is a he/him lesbian. Loves women in a lesbian way. Loves men in a god honoring way. Definitely had a few too many gay thoughts about Jesus and priests. Originally transitioned to male before joining the holy order and was able to more deeply contemplate his relationship with gender post peace. Very comfortable presenting as a man and letting only those close to him know the truth about how he feels deeply. In lesbians with his beautiful WMD wife.
Dizzy - Intersex transfem. Now that she's in a more stable spot and not likely to get hunted for sport she's considering her relationship with humanity. Very openly let's her more extreme gear traits show around family and starting to open up to the public. Leading the charge on rights for sentient gears. Extremely aware of how her position effects policy and public opinion. Loves her silly husband. Necros is a "Man" and Undine is a woman. They're married.
Sin - Sol forgot to teach him what gender was. Does not care about pronouns or presentation, prefers to express his gear traits and run around to keeping himself locked up or conforming to societal expectations. Trends more male because that's what he was surrounded for most of his life. Gender is wildboything. Too busy thinking about food and fighting to think about sexuality.
Ramlethal - Artificial "woman". (Yes the quotes are important.) Does not consider h3rself fully human or fully something else. Uses pronouns to reflect this dichotomy (sh3/h3r). Has spent a lot of time thinking about gender and h3r perception of it. Will continue pondering and updating how sh3 feels every once in a while. Asexual ???romantic.
Elphelt - Genderfluid and expresses gender very strongly. He is Ilyrias worst bisexual because nobody wants him. Likes a lot of different aesthetics and subcultures. She's much less open about her inhuman parts than the rest of the family but she's getting there! :)
Jack-O - Transfem with a little something extra ;) Is her own separate person and has come to terms with the separation between her and Aria. Shes her own person and the woman she was based on isn't ever coming back and that's okay. Has a very strong platonic friendship with Sol. [NOTE. I personally prefer a friendship because of my own thoughts on how Jackie and Aria were handled. Shipping is cool and I indulge but it's not my main thing at all!]

Going thru the guilty gear wiki and compiling a blorbo list and oh my god. These characters r like right up my alley. <- knows this will do smth to me
But um. Guilty gear blorbo list from perusing the wiki:
A.B.A. literally such good design and reading the personality note I'm like shooting the beams of oh my god mecore. Literally like when u see a character and ur like woah. Connecting mentally already. This is a very bad sign to start w bc um. The more blorbos I gather from guilty gear the more I'll wanna play it
Answer. Oh my god. Weak for men that r like businessy and the personality section on the wiki.
Baiken. Me when women 😳 but also like..I love her clothing it's sooo swag. Also characters when they r like that personality wise. Literally screaming and pounding my fists against the ground
Bedman. The design alone. Then I hit the personality section and like. 👀 Girls will see a character that's rude and go ok. Bestie moment. And that's me rn
Giovanna. Oh my god. Literally like shooting w the blorbo beams going insane etc. Like just looking at the personality section and just like. Latched on. Also oh my god I love the outfit too.
I-No. Literally she's so so so pretty and characters that are kinda fucked up but like. Have the tiny bits of weakness in their little fucked up guy attitude. Very intrigued w her.
Johnny. Literally like the exact character type I get invested in I literally care about him so much.
Sin Kiske. Very intrigued on like. What the lore w him is but I don't wanna get spoiled

An analysis of SolKy
Hello! Thank you so much for clicking on this. A while ago, I was asked to do an essay explaining why people ship SolKy other than the whole rivals/opposites attract reason, and I got a lot of feedback stating it was useful for newcomers to the ship! As a result I’ve decided to post this on tumblr, but just on the ship’s tag as to not bother uninterested people.
A couple of disclaimers before I begin. This is firstly just my own opinion, so whilst it makes sense for me, other shippers may disagree with my points. I’m also not claiming they are canon because they are not. But I do hope it’ll give some insight into why some people like me enjoy them together.
Even once you’ve read this essay, you can still dislike SolKy. This isn’t an essay stating you have to ship them.
This will be extremely long as I basically cover every single interaction they’ve ever had with each other since I know some people sort of gloss over their dialogue, so grab yourself a drink, get comfy, and I hope you enjoy reading!
(Last edited: 09/05/2021. This will be updated again when Strive releases!)
How this all began
If we’re starting right at the beginning, it’s common knowledge that Ky and Sol weren’t exactly on great terms and often clashed most of the time due to their conflicting beliefs. Ky saw the world in terms of black and white, and had very strict rules on what constituted as right and wrong. Sol seemed to think differently and went against that, which was a stark contrast compared to the other Order members at the time.
Considering that they were in fact, in the middle of a war, you would think that generally people would be willing to put their differences aside and work together.
But Sol wasn’t like everyone else, going off and doing his own thing instead of actually listening to orders, so it’s understandable why Ky found him rather irritating.
However, Ky did grow curious of Sol. Obviously curiosity does not equate to love, but it is the basis of Ky wanting to become more friendly with and know more about Sol. There seemed to be something that Sol knew but Ky didn’t, but how was that possible..? As a result, despite how infuriating he could be, Ky sought to seek out the truth and so fought him for answers.
In regards to why exactly they fight (aside from the fact that this is a fighting game), Ishiwatari wrote something called ‘Hostility is Akin to Love’ right above a picture of them fighting:
Hostility is akin to love Thinking of your opponent’s actions to fight, Reading your opponent’s inner thoughts to fight, Planning attacks that will hit your opponent to fight, And then transmitting your thoughts with those attacks, The more you think of your own advantage, at the same time you think of your opponent, In the instant you mix with your opponent, a passionate feeling arises, and blood boils, Reality is hurt, and you wound your opponent, Hostility is akin to love. — Guilty Gear Isuka Mook
It states how fighting someone can be close to feelings of love because you have to think about what your opponent is doing, as well as how you’re going to respond to your opponent. Overtime, you start to memorise how your opponent thinks, and as a result you’ll know them on a deeper level.
So considering the above, this explains how even though they weren’t on friendly terms, they still formed a bond with one another.
Now we’ve established how exactly their relationship started, and why Ky was curious about Sol in the first place, let’s look at things from Sol’s perspective.
Sol’s attitude towards Ky
We know that Sol was also pretty annoyed by Ky, which was totally justifiable given the extreme way in which Ky thought the world worked. But Sol didn’t exactly dislike Ky.
In order to provide some evidence that Sol cares about Ky, let’s cover that infamous scene everyone likes to reference which shows Sol crying over Ky’s dead body:
Sol:     "I came to pick you up." Ky:      "Always coming late... you never could fix that..." Sol:     "You..." Ky:      "As to be expected... until the very end... I could never beat you..." Sol:     "Don't say anything!" Ky:      "I have... a request..." Sol:     "I said shut up!" Ky:      "After Commander Kliff... carry on... the Holy Order..." Sol:     "Stop it... that's your job!" Ky:      "Please... promise me..." Sol:     "Dammit..." Ky:      "If it's you... you can do..." Sol:     "Hey.... what's wrong. Hey! KYYYYYY!" — Guilty Gear XX Drama CD Side Red, Battle of Rome — Deathmatch
A lot of people bring this quote up when discussing SolKy and yes, it does show Sol cares about Ky considering how Sol never really cares about anyone in general, but the fact that Ky’s death managed to make him emotional shows what an impact Ky had on him. There are however more quotes that show Sol’s feelings.
There’s this scene in the GG Xtra manga, Ky and Sol get attacked by a mountain-sized gear. In order to save them, Sol rips off his limiter and Dragon Installs. This scene is very poignant when you take into consideration what Sol said in After Story A:
Sol:     "Back during the Crusades, before we met... Kliff told me this rumour about a prodigy swordsman." Sol:     "If you couldn't guess, that was you. I didn't give a shit at the time..." Sol:     "But then I saw you on the battlefield." Sol:     "I saw someone out there who surpassed all of my expectations. Or perhaps I should say 'something.'" Sol:     "No openings, no wasted movements, no carelessness, no hesitation, no embarrassment, not even any honor. No chivalry or mercy. A being unaffected by emotion." Sol:     "You were a killing machine. Taking down gears with brutal efficiency." Ky:      "...That was a long time ago." Sol:     "I'm not done talking. I've seen the face of the 'serious' Ky." Sol:     "Then one day, you challenged me." Sol:     "You wanna know what I thought right then?" Ky:      "..." Sol:     "I was afraid. Hell, I was scared shitless." Sol:     "'He figured out that I'm a Gear, and he's come to kill me.' That's what I thought." — Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, After Story A
Sol admits that he knows just how scary Ky can be. Since Ky was extremely against Gears, if Ky found out that Sol was a Gear, then Ky would have most likely attempted to kill him. But Sol knew this and was willing to die for Ky’s sake, and transformed anyway:
Ky:      "Sol..." Ky:      (Really... that's really..) Ky:      (That's really you!?) Ky:      "SOL!" Sol:     "Shut it..." Sol:     "I didn't do it..." Sol:     "To help you out—...." — Guilty Gear Xtra, Chapter 5: Unspeakable Thoughts
Going off on a bit of a tangent from Sol’s feelings, but I just want to point out Ky’s state of mind at this point. Ky in this time period was still very anti-Gear, as it was only through this moment and his encounters with Solaria and Dizzy later that made him change his way of thinking. It took a long time for Ky to accept Gears, and he still had the remains of that mindset in him when he had Sin, as he refused to make eye contact with him because Ky was ashamed of having a Gear child. So the fact that Ky knew Sol was a Gear, believed all Gears were evil, but still decided to accept Sol into his life and wanted to support him regardless of that, is interesting.
Back to Sol, another small quote that manages to show Sol’s feelings towards Ky is this:
Sol:     (Maybe I'll finish them off while I'm at it...) Sol:     (But that would mean breaking my promise to Ky...) — Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, Sol Badguy Path 2
Now, Sol doesn’t care about 99% of what other people do as long as they don’t get in his way. The fact that he intends to keep his promise with Ky suggests that he holds Ky in somewhat ‘high’ regards compared to others.
There’s also this quote that shows Sol is thinking about Ky in Overture:
The frustrations of the man wielding a giant sword were piling day by day, and a familiar face appeared in his head. What’s he up to right now? “Hmph, whatever…” With a feeling of self-contempt, Sol Badguy shook his head. What am I getting sentimental for? — Guilty Gear 2: Overture, #0 “Noise”
And when Sol encounters Raven later on after seeing Ky incapacitated, Raven points out how he can tell Sol is upset, meaning Sol’s not really doing a good job of pretending he’s still indifferent to Ky.
Raven: "You're as ruthless as ever, huh, monster?" Sol:      "Look who's talking." Raven: "Can you not put down your sword and talk? I understand you're upset with Ky Kiske defeated." Sol:      "I'll ask your corpse for answers." — Guilty Gear 2: Overture, #5 "Gaze of the Chronicle"
Sol’s thoughts about Ky become even clearer during his confrontation with Sin when he’s under the influence of Valentine, where Sol defends Ky’s actions and tries to make Sin understand Ky is not 100% at fault:
Sin:     "Can you see it? Can you feel it? This is my real power. This is my mother's strength." Sol:     "But it's light. It must be from your father." Sin:     "Shut up! Don't ever mention him!" Sin:     "He abandoned my mother and me using justice as an excuse!" Sin:     "Who cares about the King!? Who cares about the people!? That man, and that Kingdom, not one of them can protect a damn thing!" Sol:     "I don't give a damn about your family." Sol:     "But you know what, Ky may be a stubborn idiot, but at least he's true to his beliefs." Sol:     "A punk like you is still alive thanks to his justice." — Guilty Gear 2: Overture, #15 "Roaring Compass"
Okay, that’s the pre-Xrd era for Sol done, now to focus on Ky’s pre-Xrd’s emotions.
Ky’s attitude towards Sol
We’ve established earlier that Ky was annoyed by Sol and disliked him in the Crusades. However, afterwards it seems as if Ky saw himself as friends with Sol:
Ofc1:   "All of them seem to have been destroyed by... fire?" Ofc2:  "Yeah... why could that be?" Ky:      "........" Ky:      "Change our course!" Ky:      "Head towards the Eastern United States!" Ofc1:   "May I ask why, Chief Ky?" Ky:      "To meet an old friend." — Guilty Gear Xtra, Chapter 4: Former Friends
We know that Ky outwardly expressed his first signs of liking Sol when Sol stole the Fuuenken and Ky chased after him, only for Sol to win in their duel, and Ky says this:
Ky:      "Promise me one thing..." Sol:     "..What?" Ky:      "We'll meet again." Sol:     "Hmph... Well, if fate brings us together..." Ky:      "..That's fine." — Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, Sol Badguy Path 1
It’s pretty interesting that Ky wanted to see Sol again despite how Sol never used to listen to his orders, and how Sol never even tried to act like what the Order expected their men to act like (chivalrous, putting the people first, etc). It at least shows us that Ky saw possibly the potential of becoming friends with Sol. And Sol didn’t even say straight up ‘no’ or ‘in your dreams’ or whatever Badguy-esque notion he usually would’ve done, so we can assume he doesn’t mind seeing Ky again either.
Then they don’t speak to each other properly for 5 years until the tournament that Testament holds, though they have probably ran into each other a few times within those years.
A common misconception people have is that during those 5 years, Ky was obsessed with Sol and would constantly try to find him. Obviously, this is not true. Ky was busy with IPF stuff and Sol was hunting Gears down.
However, it’s not as if Ky completely forgot about Sol — he was just probably at the back of his mind, and Ky does admit that he has been chasing after Sol the most more than anyone else:
Ky:      (Waiting outside for me when I left the ship... burning red flames. Soon, they seem to take the shape of a man... and he appears before me. Yes... it's him. The one I've been after the most... it's him.) — Guilty Gear X Drama CD, Vol. 1: Track Seven — Crater
There’s also these two other quotes:
Ky:      (Sol...) Ky:      (Why are you so stubborn about doing things alone?) — Guilty Gear Xtra, Chapter 5: Unspeakable Thoughts
You can interpret this in two ways: either Ky wants to help Sol out and/or he’s curious as to why Sol always does stuff alone.
And then there’s this:
Ky:      "Maintaining peace, law, and order. That is my duty." Sol:     "Whatever..." Ky:      "You and I, we are cut from the same cloth." Ky:      "How long are you going to keep that facade?" Sol:     "..." Ky:      "Answer me Sol!" — Guilty Gear Judgment, Sol and Ky Ending
Being ‘cut from the same cloth’ is quite a strong statement. The phrase means that Ky thought he and Sol were similar somehow, and that he shared something with Sol. Regardless, the ‘how long are you going to keep that facade’ at least shows that Ky knows Sol is intentionally acting distant/rough/etc. and that its not actually who he is.
Jumping to pre-Overture, just before Ky gives Sin to Sol, Ky is in a really depressive state due to all of the stress he’s been going through. This leads Dizzy to contact Sol. The fact that Sol is called means that Dizzy knows that Sol is possibly the only person who can help Ky at that point, which puts some emphasis on just how much Sol means to Ky or at least affects him.
Before I move onto Xrd, there’s this part where Ky gives his son to Sol. This proves he trusts Sol so much considering he was asking him to take care of Sin for a long period of time.
Ky:      “Sol....I want to request something...” Sol:     “...hnn?” Ky:      “My son....Sin..can you take care of him for a while?” Sol:     “...what did you say?” Ky:      “I know it’s unreasonable but...I still want to ask...” — GG2: Overture Story, Sol's Story
The Xrd era (because it is so long, it needs its own section)
The Xrd era is extremely interesting to me, because Sol and Ky have some more in-depth conversations, and boy, do they have a lot of conversations.
Focusing on Sol first, theres a scene in REV where Sol asks Ky why he isn’t interested in his past:
Sol:     "Why don't you ask me already?" Ky:      "Ask you what?" Sol:     "About my past." Ky:      "I can ask you?" Sol:     "I guarantee, it won't be interesting." Sol:     "Every other word that came out of your mouth was 'Duel me,' or 'I challenge you!' You were so eager to fight and..." Ky:      "........" — Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Story Mode: Chapter 03, Sense A
Given that Ky was constantly pestering Sol about his background in the past, it makes sense why Sol is suddenly a bit confused about Ky’s sudden change in behaviour. But it also shows that Sol wants Ky to know about his past. After ~170+ years of being alive, Sol wants to finally open up to someone again, and he specifically chose Ky for this. It shows in the very least Sol trusts Ky and knows him well enough to decide to let him know about who he used to be.
And then Ky says this, which is basically him just showing Sol how much he cares and understands him:
Ky:      "Sol. Of course I have an interest in your past." Ky:      "But wanting to understand someone and trying to understand everything is completely different." Ky:      "Right now, Sol Badguy's future matters much more to me, than Frederick's past." — Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Story Mode: Chapter 03, Sense A
There’s also this scene in SIGN:
Ky:      "I don't know your history." Ky:      "I don't know if you had friends once, or if you fell in love, or why you burn with such hatred for That Man and the Gears..." Ky:      "I don't even know your real name." Sol:     "..." Ky:      "But I do know a great deal about a man named Sol Badguy." Ky:      "Blinded by vengeance, he lost sight of himself, and now he runs from the truth that frightens him." Sol:     "...Say that again." Ky:      "Tomorrow always comes, Sol." Sol:     "..!" Ky:      "If tomorrow promises to be cold and dark, I cannot stand idly by... even if I know my efforts will come to nothing." Sol:     "... The self-righteous apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Ky:      "I don't expect the world to change tomorrow, but I do hope that, today, perhaps my words will reach you." Ky:      "Sol..." Ky:      "I'll be waiting for you. We'll all be waiting for you. Sin, Dizzy..." Ky:      "Once all this is over... come home." — Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Story Mode: Chapter 04, Kaleidoscope B
Three things to take away from this:
Ky admits that he doesn’t know anything about Sol’s background, but that he knows a lot about the current Sol, and then goes on to explain how Sol acts. Which to expand on, means that although Ky used to care about Sol’s past, he doesn’t really mind about it anymore because Sol’s past won’t really change much who Sol is to Ky now. Also, the part where Ky explains how Sol was ‘blinded by vengeance,’etc. shows that Ky knows Sol’s current personality well enough in order to be able to distinguish his behaviours. Which is interesting because nobody has been around Sol long enough to be able to know him really well unlike Ky (Aria and Asuka count too, but they were around Sol when he was Frederick, and Sol seems pretty adamant on the idea that he’s a separate person from Frederick.)
‘Come home’ is pretty significant, as it implies that it’s almost like Ky is saying home is with Sin, Dizzy and the Valentines, and so when Sol is done getting revenge on That Man, instead of letting Sol just wander off alone, Ky wants Sol to be a family with them.
The fact that says Ky says ‘I’ll be waiting for you’ separate from ‘we’ll all be waiting for you’ implies that either Ky’s want to wait for Sol is somehow different from everyone else’s or it’s just for the sake of being dramatic. I interpreted this in both ways, as it seems like Ky knows that Sol treats him differently compared to others. So in a sense, by Ky emphasising that he’ll be waiting for Sol, it might make Sol more likely to ‘come home’.
There’s also a scene that shows Ky knows Sol’s personality well:
Ky:      "When I look at you, Sol, I see a man who is afraid." Sol:     "... What?" Ky:      "It became clear when I watched you caring for Sin." Ky:      "You work very hard to keep everyone at arm's length." Sol:     "..." Sol:     "I got Gear blood in my veins, and it ain't friendly. It's always there in the back of my head, whispering that I oughta just destroy all of this." Sol:     "The only way I'm gonna get some closure is tracking down That Man and beating some answers out of him." Sol:     "And if he doesn't have 'em..." Sol:     "Then maybe there really isn't a good way to live." Ky:      "That's why you close your heart off." — Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Story Mode: Chapter 08, Hope A
There’s also this:
Ky:      "Not all people have the strength to stand on their own." Sol:     "..." Ky:      "If only life were simple, and the right path was laid out before each of us..." Ky:      "But even then some would leave it, and some would struggle with walking it. Such is human nature..." Ky:      "The truth is that no path will ever be 'right' for all people. Each of us must find the one we are meant to walk--and sometimes that is where none exists." Ky:      "That is what I learned from you." — Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Story Mode: Chapter 08, Hope A
This just shows that Ky actually learnt something from Sol. Which I think is important because Ky is someone who always used to be very strict to his ideals. The fact that he learnt something from Sol that had an impact on his mindset means that Sol actually managed to have a great impact on Ky.
There’s this scene where Sol finds out that Aria isn’t dead when he confronts That Man, and he has somewhat of a mini mental breakdown. So Ky excuses them from the room, and goes outside to talk with Sol:
Ky:      "Sol. The grudge you hold is certainly not something that can be taken lightly. And, whatever answer you think you've found, I doubt any of us will be able to stop you from seeing it through..." Ky:      "But we have very little time left. Right now, we need the Gear Maker's help." Ky:      "So, I'm begging you... Just for now. Why don't you stay outside with me." — Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Story Mode: Chapter 06, Cause A
The last line that Ky says is interesting because it’s obvious that he’s just trying to calm Sol down, and Ky thinks that if he stays with Sol outside for a bit, he’ll be able to help him calm down. Furthermore, Ky thought it was more necessary to pause everything and help Sol out rather than keep listening to the plans of what their next course of action would be.
Ky does have the habit of comforting Sol. One of the more significant moments is whenever Sol refers to himself as a monster:
Ky:      "Yes, he took away some of what makes you human, but that doesn't mean he altered your mind or your soul." Sol:     "So what?" Ky:      "I want to believe that you'll fight for the people of this world." Sol:     "Are we seriously having this conversation?" Sol:     "Look, kid. I'm a monster. I'm here to do two things: Destroy That Man, and kill all the other Gears." — Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, Story Mode: Chapter 04, Kaleidoscope B
To expand a little on Sol’s mindset, it’s common knowledge that Gears were generally in the past regarded as akin to monsters. Now we don’t have any solid proof Sol is referring to himself as a monster because he’s a Gear, or because he feels guilt about the whole Gear Project, etc. But we do know it’s something he’s affected by given that he constantly refers to himself as one.
So the fact that Ky constantly reassures him that he’s not one, and that Ky didn’t treat him differently after finding out he was a Gear, must be comforting to know.
Then at the end of REV, there’s the scene where Daryl is about to shoot Sol, because he (quite rightly) doesn’t trust the fate of the world to be left to Sol. And so, the kids get beamed up, but Ky asks to be left behind:
Ky:      "But, if you plan on targeting Sol, then you must leave me behind, as well." Daryl: "What!?" Zappa:"60 seconds until impact..!" Sol:     "What the hell are you doing?! Stay with Sin!" Ky:      "I am well aware that this is a one in a million chance..." Ky:      "But, if I survive at the expense of my dear friend, then there is little reason left for my ruling this world as king." — Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Story Mode: Final Chapter, Fireworks
This was a really odd moment because Ky’s life was never in danger at that moment. If he had been sent on board Daryl’s ship as originally planned, he would have been safe. But Ky intentionally chose to risk his life, and its kind of startling because Ky has always put his people above everything. There were times when he put the people above his own family, like when he kept his family a secret instead of coming out with the truth about them in order to remain as King to protect his people.
So Ky suddenly going ‘I would rather die with Sol than take care of my people’ is really extreme. Also Ky was willing to leave his family behind, which is even more extreme. So this just really proves how highly Ky regards Sol considering how he would rather die with him than live without him.
Some concluding notes
I think Sol and Ky’s personalities do work really well. Perhaps not in the Crusade era, but if we take a look at the Xrd era, they have shown to get along and have deep conversations with one another that they both enjoy. They know each other extremely well; they know how to support one another when life gets a bit too much and they’re also capable of telling one another when the other is wrong.
Sol teaches Ky that life isn’t as simple as it seems, and that (figuratively speaking) he shouldn’t stick exactly to the textbook. He’s able to see under that perfect image Ky puts up about him being able to cope with everything, acting as a source of stability when you consider how Sol has been the only person who’s been around Ky since the very beginning.
Throughout all of Ky’s life, he’s been under so much pressure. From being Commander in the Crusades, to becoming the Head of the International Police Force, to becoming King. In every situation, people are constantly relying on him, and his environment is changing rapidly. But despite everything, Sol has always remained the same. He looks the same, acts the same, etc. Ky can rely on Sol and trust Sol. He’s like a source of stability for Ky in those hectic times.
And Ky provides something similar to Sol too, given how often he ran into Sol time and time again. When you’ve been alive for so long, it’d feel reassuring in the very least to see a familiar face. And Sol does seem to get less annoyed each time they meet each other again, considering like how in Overture he voluntarily went to go see Ky after seeing himself on a wanted poster.
Ky also gives Sol the chance to open up to people again and form connections with them, something that Sol has been reluctant to do. Sol needs someone to care about him, and Ky proves that by constantly reassuring him and never giving up on trying to help Sol, even though he kept getting pushed away.
They may not be canon but I really do love how they work together. Yes it’s true some people may like them because they are ‘rivals’and seeing rivals get together and bicker is great, but actually I think when people focus more on how much they support and rely on each other, as well as the fact that they do get along, them being in a relationship is more convincing.
Whilst this essay focused on their canon interactions, there’s plenty of other great material out there. For instance, the Guilty Gear 4KomaKINGS manga provides plenty of great SolKy interactions (like the time Ky wanted to have a friendship diary with Sol, only to get rejected and start crying about it. Of course, take these interactions with a pinch of skepticism considering the frivolity of the source material.)
And that, was my very long SolKy essay. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading! Though you may not have agreed with everything I have said, you still continued reading, and I am grateful for that. Thank you for showing such enthusiasm and loving this franchise.
